About This Course
Alberta Upstream Regulatory Roadmap follows one well through its whole regulated life. You start where a company starts, with the identity, eligibility and system accounts it needs before it can hold a licence, then follow the well through exploration, mineral tenure, planning and environmental triggers, surface access, resource applications and licensing, drilling, completion and the operating years. The course ends with liability, enforcement, suspension, abandonment and reclamation, so that a surface land agent can see where every step of the file sits, who decides it, and where the land agent's own work touches it.
It is for practising Alberta surface land agents and administrators who want the whole regulatory picture beyond the land file, and the project coordinators who work beside them. It is designed as continuing-competence learning for Alberta land agents, at an intermediate level rather than entry-level training.
What you will learn
- Place any task on a ten-stage roadmap and name the deciding body
- List what a company needs before it can hold an AER licence
- Follow the mineral tenure routes: Crown sale, continuation, cancellation, and First Nations and Freehold minerals
- Walk the prework triggers, the public land approval process and resource applications, and show how surface access feeds licensing
- Read the drilling, completion and operations steps and point out where the land agent is involved
- Explain the end-of-life sequence: liability, compliance and enforcement, suspension, abandonment and reclamation
