About This Course

Running a Surface Land Project is about the project management around the land work: keeping a wellsite, facility or pipeline moving from the day the team decides to build it to first production. You will lay out a project as a row of dated milestones and set proposed dates from default durations that differ for Crown and Freehold land, run the kick-off, keep a weekly status line list, compare proposed with actual dates, and find the steps that hold a project up, most of which sit outside the company's control.

It is for surface land coordinators, land administrators and project managers at an operator, and the broker land agents who report to them. It is designed as continuing-competence learning for Alberta land agents, at an intermediate level rather than entry-level training.

What you will learn

  • Lay out a wellsite, facility or pipeline project as milestones in order, and say what each means and who completes it
  • Set proposed dates from default durations for Crown and Freehold land, and say which milestone each date is counted from
  • Run a project kick-off, from the kick-off email and table top scout to the preliminary survey review and the kick-off to the broker
  • Keep the weekly status line list: fill each column, order the projects, write dated remarks and remove a project at the right time
  • Read a tracker's done, ongoing and past-due markings, compare proposed with actual dates and find the bottleneck
